Welcome to How To Improve Jump. This site is dedicated to all the young athletes out there that are willing to put their heart and soul into training and become better than the average joe.
Over two decades ago I was in the same place you are now, I wanted to jump higher and I wanted to learn how to dunk a basketball. I needed a how to improve jump website, but the problem was, back then, there was no Internet and no websites. There was nothing about learning how to jump higher. And at 5’9″ my height was not going to help me.
I knew I needed to learn how to improve jumping ability if I was going to be a successful basketball player. I was already a pretty decent athlete and had been playing sports most of my young life, but I wanted to be better, I didn’t just want to be the gym class hero. I wanted to stand out and do the things others couldn’t do.

Learning How To Improve Jump
So, I can remember working my way up through the ranks as a very young basketball player and finally achieving that goal of “touching the net”, that was a great milestone but it was now time for middle school basketball and practically everyone on the team could touch the net. It was time to get the rim!
I grew up in a relatively small country town and we did not have much height advantages when we played bigger city teams. But what we did have was a great work ethic and we practiced and trained very hard. I remember in 7th grade, no one on our team could touch the rim, not even out tallest guys. I made it my goal to be able to touch the rim by 8th grade. But how was I going to learn to jump higher, what exercises to increase vertical leap would I use.
There was nothing on the market at that time so I made things up. Ankle weights were popular in the late 70′s and early 80′s and my dad happened to have a pair laying around the house. So, I started jumping rope with ankle weights. After a few weeks I noticed a slight difference in how high I was jumping. Something was working!
So, I continued on with my how to improve jump quest. I began to try a bit more challenging jumping exercises and vertical workouts. I started with a concrete block and with the ankle weights on, I began a jump training workout that had me doing repetitions of jumps back and forth over the block. I first laid the block on its side but found that was rather easy so I began improving my jumping ability with the concrete block standing on it’s end. Over and over I jumped; back and forth and back and forth.
It was working, I was increasing my vertical by multiple inches each month. I graduated from concrete blocks and started jumping over the seat of a wooden chair. I increased the sets of my “how to improve jump” workouts as I became stronger and had more endurance.

I finally increased my vertical
Finally, the end result had my jump training workout using the backs of chairs, I was literally jumping back and forth over a chair back. In the end, my workout was a success!
I continued to improve my jumping ability through high school and at it’s peak my vertical leap was just over 48 inches. It was an amazing experience and gave me amazing and very satisfying results. There is no better feeling in the world than going up and grabbing a rebound from a guy that is a foot taller than you.
I learned how to improve jump from trial and error. And you can learn too, only you don’t have to go through all the crude methods that I used. There is a great manual called The Jump Manual that shows you how to do everything. This is the manual that I used to train my son to jump higher. And I highly recommend you talk a look for yourself.
